Last week I remodeled a fire pit in San Diego that was outdated and damaged. The stucco on the outside was cracking and in need of repair, and the brick on top was not something that fit the style of the yard. We decided to demo the brick and replace it with flagstone, and also redo the stucco.
The owners chose to use Autumn Flame Flagstone for the top of the fire pit because it fit well with the natural look of the area. This area is tucked back on the side of their yard with a lot of plants and a water feature.
The first step was to remove the brick on top. It came off pretty easy with a hammer and chisel.
I then began marking and cutting the flagstone for the top.
After setting the stone, I did the stucco, then grouted the stone with a brown grout. This was a one day job and everything went smooth. Total cost to homeowner for labor AND materials – only $695! Well worth the finished project!
